Heritage British workwear brand Pexwear, which was founded in Liverpool in 1816 by John Peck & Co., has opened its first store at 100 Shoreditch High Street, East London.
It follows the brand’s resurrection in October 2025, led by Folk founder Cathal McAteer and Liverpool-born, London-based designer Domingo Rodriguez, who brought it back to life for the first time since the 1970s.
While the new version of Pexwear has a more fashion-focused edge, traditional workwear is still very much at its core – reimagined for a modern audience.
Rodriguez said: “The project came about through finding vintage Pexwear garments and archive material, which opened up this really interesting world of British workwear. There was something very honest and practical about those pieces, but they also had a lot of character.
“Rather than bringing the brand back as a straight reproduction, we wanted to reimagine it for today. We’ve taken details, trims and shapes from the original garments, then reworked them into a modern collection that feels easy to wear now.”
The collection, currently being sold by END, Peggs & Son and Sevenwolves, includes the ‘Mechanics Jacket’ (£75), the ‘Carpenters Trouser’ (£65), the ‘Tradesman Shirt’ (£55), the ‘Tradesman Gilet’ (£75), the ‘Stewards Trouser’ (£65), the ‘Trucker Jacket’ (£85), as well as logoed caps (£30) and T-shirts (£30).
As well as having a growing fashion following, Pexwear has created custom uniforms – including aprons, jackets and screen-printed T-shirts – for the team at The George pub on London’s Great Portland Street, as well as for staff at the newly opened Café Jikoni at the V&A East Museum.
Rodriguez added: “From the early pieces, it has grown naturally from there – especially through the people and businesses wearing it. Seeing the garments on chefs, makers and creative teams has really helped shape what the brand is becoming, at an accessible price point.”
