The Queer Screen Film Fest has unveiled the full programme for its 13th edition, which will take place in Sydney from September 2 to 8, followed by an on-demand season running from September 9 to 16. This year’s festival will present 28 films, including 12 features and 16 shorts, alongside industry events, competitions, and the debut of Queer Screen Studio, a new initiative featuring masterclasses, panel discussions, and networking opportunities for emerging filmmakers.
Opening the festival is Jim Queen, the animated feature by Marco Nguyen and Nicolas Athané, while Sweet Milk Lake, written, directed by, and starring Harvey Zielinski, has been selected as the Closing Night film. The Emerging Narrative Feature Competition will showcase six international titles, joined by a Panorama section highlighting acclaimed productions from around the world, anniversary screenings, documentaries, and Australian independent cinema.
Beyond the screenings, the festival will once again host the Queer Screen Pitch Off Competition, where finalists will compete for a production grant, while the newly introduced Queer Screen Studio aims to support the next generation of LGBTIQ+ filmmakers through industry panels and practical workshops. A diverse selection of short films will also screen throughout the festival, including titles presented before feature films.
