Endometriosis occurs when tissue similar to the lining of the uterus grows outside the uterus, often causing severe pain and sometimes affecting fertility. While it has traditionally been viewed as a gynecologic condition, researchers now recognize that its effects may extend throughout the body. Yale School of Medicine researchers are studying new ways to diagnose endometriosis earlier and more accurately, including blood- and saliva-based biomarkers that could reduce the need for surgery. They are also working to better understand the disease and develop more personalized treatment approaches. Learn more about this research in the video above.
