A St. Petersburg woman was arrested Thursday after police said she set another woman on fire at a gas station.
Eleanor Crawford, 41, faces charges of attempted murder and arson, the St. Petersburg Police Department said in a news release.
According to police, the victim, a 41-year-old woman, was pumping gas into her Volvo SUV at a Mobil gas station at 101 40th Ave. N. about 8 p.m. when Crawford approached her and “deliberately ignited gasoline with a lighter.”
“The victim’s vehicle was engulfed in flames, and the victim was seriously injured,” the news release states. The woman was taken to Tampa General Hospital to be treated for second-degree burns. Police did not release her identity.
Police found Crawford a couple of blocks away and arrested her. She did not know the victim, police said, and her motive was not clear.
Records show Crawford was being held Friday at the Pinellas County Jail without bond.
According to court records, her criminal history in Pinellas County includes charges of battery, petty theft, disorderly intoxication and drug possession.
She was most recently arrested in July on charges of battery on a law enforcement officer and resisting arrest without violence. Her arrest report in that case noted that she was transient and showed signs of mental health issues.
