It’s officially strawberry season. And while there are a few well-known ways to use the fruit in cocktails (Strawberry Daiquiris, anyone?), there are plenty of uses for it that you may be missing out on. Here are some of our favorite ways to incorporate strawberries into cocktails.
Crushing the fruit into a shaker (or directly in the glass) quickly imparts its flavor into the mix. For a stronger strawberry note, let the maceration sit for longer.
Letting the fruit rest in a spirit is a good move to make a versatile ingredient that can swap into several cocktails. That goes the same for steeping strawberries into a syrup, with the added bonus that sweeteners—especially those that layer in other flavors like lavender or tea—can be used in nonalcoholic applications.
Is it even summer if you don’t have at least one frozen strawberry drink?
Freeze dried strawberries can be pulverized into powders for salt rims. Also: Don’t let any part of your strawberry go to waste. The Gift of Strawberries uses several of the techniques mentioned here, and it upcycles a part of the fruit that would’ve otherwise gone to waste: the tops.
