Donald Trump drew fierce condemnation on Tuesday over social media posts about how many U.S. service members have so far been killed in his Iran war.
After the American troops death toll rose to 18, Trump appeared to downplay criticism of the conflict, which he launched in February. by posting comparisons to the number of U.S. soldiers killed in wars launched by his predecessors.
Trump later followed up with this graph, along with the demand: “These are the real facts. REPORT THEM!”
Former Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.), who has repeatedly criticized Trump for launching the war, among other topics, accused the president of “bragging about killing 18 US soldiers.”
“Thats how I read this stupid posts,” she wrote on X. “The ‘peace president’ went to war and is killing and wounding our troops.”
“GFY,” she concluded the post, internet slang for “go fuck yourself.”
The press team for California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) also blasted Trump, calling him a “disgusting Little Man” and urging him to “treat our brave American soldiers with some respect.”
Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) said “bragging” about “only” 18 service members “being killed in a reckless and illegal war” started by the president is “beneath contempt and a new low even for the likes of Donald Trump.”
