The 10th Congressional District encompasses parts of Essex and Union counties and part of Jersey City in Hudson County. The Essex municipalities are Caldwell, East Orange, Essex Fells, Irvington, Orange, Verona, West Orange and parts of Montclair and Newark. The Union County communities are Cranford, Garwood, Hillside, Kenilworth, Roselle, Roselle Park, Union Township and part of Linden.
This district is the bluest in the state. The voter registration split is 54% Democrats, 10% Republicans and most of the rest unaffiliated.
The incumbent is Democrat LaMonica McIver, who replaced Rep. Donald Payne Jr. after his death in April 2024. All three county Democratic parties have endorsed her. Challenging McIver is Lawrence Poster, who lists his address as a West Orange post office box and is using the slogans “Democrat for the Middle Class” and “Kitchen Table Democrat.”
Carmen Bucco, a Kenilworth man who lost two years ago, is the only Republican running.
