In this special edition, we’re taking a journey through public art in New Jersey with our new digital documentary series “Painting Community.”
In this episode, we take you to Jersey City, where El Cekis has put his talents on full display. Cekis grew up Santiago, Chile, where he was drawn to murals that were created during the political unrest of the 1980s, under the authoritarian rule of General Pinochet. Cekis taught himself to paint, which led him to connect with the Jersey City art scene after moving to the U.S.
