Two people were injured Monday by separate suspected lightning strikes in the Dade City area, authorities said.
The first incident happened about 4:50 p.m. in the 13000 block of Palmilla Circle in the Lake Jovita neighborhood, where emergency crews responded to a report of a man possibly struck by lightning, according to Pasco County Fire Rescue. Bystanders were performing lifesaving measures on the man when fire rescue crews arrived.
The man was taken to a local hospital with critical injuries. The fire rescue department has not released his name or an update on his condition.
Roughly 25 minutes later and 4 miles to the east, at about 5:15 p.m., crews responded to the 14000 block of Wilson Street, just east of downtown Dade City, to a report of a man possibly struck by lightning. The man was conscious and breathing and did not appear to have serious injuries but was taken to a local hospital as a precaution.
“Early information suggests this may have been an indirect lightning strike,” fire rescue officials said in a news release.
The department has not released the man’s name.
