And it appeared to place the blame for GOP losses squarely on Donald Trump.
“Orange Crush,” declared the conservative news aggregation website’s main headline Wednesday morning, as Democrats were projected to regain control of both the House and Senate in the 2026 midterm elections.
Accompanied by a close-up snap of Trump, the headline appeared to be a play on his famously orange complexion, accentuated by the lighting in the image, and the crushing defeat suffered by his party.
The Matt Drudge-founded website, which backed Trump during his successful 2016 presidential campaign against Democratic rival Hillary Clinton but later became a fierce critic of the president, was not alone in its scathing assessment of the results.
The Wall Street Journal’s conservative editorial board described the outcome as a “crushing verdict” on Republicans, arguing that Trump was “the main architect of this rout.”
