AppLovin (APP): Strong Fundamentals, Compressed Valuation, but the Chart Still Needs to Confirm a Bottom
AppLovin (NASDAQ: APP) has become one of the more unusual growth-stock setups in the market. The company continues to generate exceptional revenue, earnings and margins, yet its share price has fallen dramatically from its 52-week high.
As of August 14, 2026, APP was trading around $315, compared with a 52-week range of approximately $303 to $746. The stock is therefore sitting close to its yearly low even though the underlying financial performance remains exceptionally strong.
The central question is simple:
Has APP become fundamentally undervalued, or is the market anticipating a significant deterioration in future growth and margins?
Financial Performance Remains Exceptional
AppLovin’s financial transformation over the last several years has been significant.
| Metric | 2023 | 2024 | 2025 | TTM |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Revenue | $1.84B | $3.22B | $5.48B | $6.83B |
| Gross profit | $1.49B | $2.70B | $4.82B | $6.04B |
| Operating income | $772M | $1.91B | $4.15B | $5.29B |
| Net income | $355M | $1.58B | $3.33B | $4.41B |
| EBITDA | $1.26B | $2.38B | $4.35B | $5.55B |
| Diluted EPS | $0.98 | $4.53 | $9.75 | $13.01 |
Revenue has expanded rapidly, but the more impressive development has been operating leverage.
TTM gross margin is approximately 88%, operating margin approximately 77%, and net margin close to 65%.
That means an unusually large percentage of incremental revenue is reaching the bottom line.
Operating expenses have also remained relatively controlled while revenue expanded dramatically.
This combination—
revenue growth + margin expansion + operating leverage
—has produced extraordinary EPS growth.
Share Count Is Not Diluting the Story
Another positive is that earnings growth has not depended on continuously issuing shares.
Diluted average shares declined from approximately:
363 million in 2023 → 339 million TTM
That creates an additional earnings accelerator:
higher profits + fewer shares = faster EPS growth.
For shareholders, this is considerably healthier than growth companies where expanding revenue is offset by persistent dilution.
Cash and Balance-Sheet Strength
The balance sheet has strengthened substantially.
Cash and short-term investments increased from roughly $1.2 billion in June 2025 to more than $3 billion by June 2026.
At the same time:
- total assets increased substantially
- liabilities grew much more slowly
- operating cash flow remained positive
- financing cash flow was generally negative
Negative financing cash flow can represent share repurchases, debt repayment or other capital-return activities.
The important point is that the company appears capable of generating enough operating cash to fund itself while simultaneously reducing capital obligations or returning capital.
One Cash-Flow Item Deserves Attention
There is one important issue investors should continue monitoring.
Quarterly operating cash flow declined materially in the June 2026 quarter even while revenue and net income continued increasing.
This does not automatically indicate deterioration.
Possible explanations include:
- working-capital changes
- receivable timing
- tax payments
- accrued liabilities
- changes in deferred revenue
- other temporary cash movements
But future reports should be examined carefully to determine whether net income continues converting efficiently into operating cash flow.
For a company generating billions in accounting earnings, cash conversion becomes increasingly important.
Valuation Has Collapsed
The most interesting part of the APP story may now be valuation.
At one point during 2025, the market assigned AppLovin extraordinary multiples.
Those multiples have compressed dramatically.
| Valuation Metric | Previous Peak Area | Current |
|---|---|---|
| Trailing P/E | ~99x | ~24x |
| Forward P/E | ~53x | ~20x |
| PEG Ratio | ~1.9 | ~0.87 |
| Price/Sales | ~43x | ~15.7x |
| EV/EBITDA | ~75x | ~19x |
APP is still expensive when measured purely by sales.
However, price-to-sales can be misleading for a business generating extraordinarily high margins.
With a TTM net margin approaching 65%, APP converts far more of each sales dollar into profit than the typical technology company.
The more interesting metrics are therefore:
P/E, EV/EBITDA, free cash flow and PEG.
A forward P/E around 20x combined with a PEG below 1 is considerably more attractive than the valuation investors were paying only months earlier.
Market Capitalization Has Been Cut Dramatically
APP’s market capitalization declined from approximately $243 billion in late 2025 to roughly $106 billion currently.
Yet the company’s reported earnings continued expanding.
That creates an interesting divergence:
fundamentals ↑
while
valuation multiple ↓↓↓
This is often where potentially attractive long-term opportunities emerge—but only if current earnings are sustainable.
The market may be pricing in slower growth, margin normalization, competitive pressure or another future risk not yet visible in trailing financial statements.
Current Price Position
APP recently traded around $315, very close to its 52-week low near $303.
Its 52-week high was approximately $746.
That represents a decline of nearly 60% from the peak.
At the same time:
- TTM EPS is approximately $13
- trailing P/E is around 24x
- forward P/E is around 20x
- market capitalization is roughly $106 billion
- beta is approximately 2.5
The high beta means investors should expect substantial volatility.
The Four-Hour Technical Chart Is Still Bearish
Despite improving valuation, the technical chart has not yet confirmed a bottom.
The four-hour structure continues to show a sequence of:
lower highs + lower lows
The decline has moved approximately:
$550 → $500 → $450 → $400 → $350 → $315
Several indicators remain bearish.
RSI
However, an oversold stock can remain oversold during a powerful downtrend.
Oversold does not automatically mean bottomed.
Important Trading Levels
Several price levels now matter.
$303–310:
Major support and the 52-week-low area.
$330–335:
First meaningful reversal level.
$350–360:
Stronger confirmation that the short-term downtrend may have changed.
$380–400:
Major overhead resistance if the recovery develops.
A break below roughly $303 would create a new 52-week low and could trigger another leg lower.
What Would Confirm a Bottom?
The strongest reversal setup would include several indicators improving together.
A move above approximately $350–360 would provide considerably stronger evidence that the larger four-hour downtrend has reversed.
ETF Fund Flows Show Speculative Interest
One APP-linked ETF has recently shown unusually volatile investor flows.
Assets under management moved from roughly $60–70 million toward $100 million, while several unusually large daily inflows appeared.
Some inflows approached tens of millions of dollars—very large relative to the ETF’s total AUM.
However, a substantial redemption followed shortly afterward.
That pattern suggests:
strong speculative interest, but limited investor commitment.
Money appears to be moving rapidly into and out of APP-related leveraged or concentrated strategies.
This can amplify volatility in both directions.
The most constructive signal would be several consecutive periods where:
APP price rises + ETF AUM rises + fund flows remain positive.
That would provide stronger evidence of sustained accumulation.
Bull Case
The bullish case for APP is increasingly compelling from a fundamental perspective.
It includes:
- exceptional revenue growth
- extraordinary operating margins
- rapidly expanding EPS
- declining share count
- strong cash accumulation
- manageable enterprise-value structure
- massive valuation compression
- price near its 52-week low
- forward P/E around 20x
- PEG below 1
If current earnings remain durable and growth continues, today’s valuation could eventually appear inexpensive.
Bear Case
The risk is that current financial performance represents peak economics.
Potential concerns include:
- margins eventually normalizing
- advertising growth slowing
- AI-related competition
- regulatory risks
- customer concentration
- weakening cash conversion
- broader technology-sector valuation compression
- continued technical distribution
The market may therefore be discounting future earnings deterioration rather than simply mispricing the existing numbers.
The Most Important Question
Investors should not ask:
“How far has APP fallen?”
The better question is:
“Are APP’s current earnings, margins and cash-generation characteristics sustainable?”
If the answer is yes, a forward P/E near 20x after a roughly 60% decline could represent a significant valuation opportunity.
If margins or earnings begin declining materially, today’s apparent discount could prove misleading.
Bottom Line
APP currently presents an unusual combination:
excellent fundamentals + dramatically lower valuation + technically bearish price action.
Fundamentally, the stock has become considerably more attractive.
Technically, the market has not yet confirmed that sellers are finished.
For aggressive investors, the $303–315 range represents an interesting contrarian zone.
For traders seeking confirmation, a move above $330–335 accompanied by improving RSI, MACD, OBV and directional indicators would be more compelling.
A sustained move above $350–360 would provide much stronger evidence that APP’s prolonged correction is transitioning into a genuine recovery.
At this stage, APP may be moving from an expensive momentum stock into something much more interesting:
a high-growth, high-margin company undergoing one of the largest valuation resets in the technology sector.
