The New York Liberty (26-18, 14-8 home) return home in an elimination spot, down 0-2 to the Atlanta Dream (30-14, 15-7 away) in the 2026 WNBA semifinals. Game 3 will tip off at 7:30 pm ET at the Barclays Center on Friday, Oct. 9.
The Dream took the series-opener 92-82 and followed-up with a thrilling 101-98 OT victory in Game 2 on Wednesday.
The Liberty’s shot-making has been better, but the Dream have had better ball-security and a significant rebounding edge: 15 fewer turnovers and eight more offensive rebounds through the first two games of the best-of-five series. That difference gives Atlanta a credible route to stay inside the spread even if New York responds at Barclays Center.
ATS Pick: Atlanta Dream +3.5 (-117 / 54¢ at Kalshi)
The spread is attractive because it offers a cushion on the team that has won the first two games and four straight head-to-head matchups dating back to the regular season. The case is stronger than a simple “hot team” argument: turnovers and offensive rebounds have repeatedly given Atlanta extra opportunities.
With rebounding in mind, Angel Reese is -220 (BetMGM) to record 10 rebounds. The Defensive Player of the Year averaged 12.1 rebounds per game in the regular season en route to her third straight rebounding title. Reese is +118 to notch 12 boards.
Across Games 1 and 2, New York has 35 turnovers to Atlanta’s 20. Atlanta also has 21 steals to New York’s 12. In Game 2, New York made 55% of its shots and 48% of its threes, but its 16 turnovers against Atlanta’s seven helped erase the shooting advantage. The teams made 12 threes apiece.
The glass tells a similar story. Atlanta is +8 in offensive rebounds (20-12). That edge coupled with the turnover advantage has led to the Dream attempting 26 more shots from the field over Games 1 and 2, combined (155 to 129). New York owns a significantly better shooting percentage (48.8% to 42.6% overall and to 43.4% to 39.3% from beyond the arc) yet still finds itself down 0-2. Even if the Liberty tighten up their ball-handling and passing, Atlanta is more than capable of narrowing the gap in FG%.
As has been the case all season, Atlanta’s scoring has been relatively spread out in the series. Jordin Canada scored 25 in Game 1 and 23 in Game 2; Angel Reese went from 17 to 23; and Rhyne Howard scored 16 and 18. DeWanna Bonner had 23 in the opener, while Naz Hillmon and Isobel Borlase supplied 12 and 11 in Game 2.
New York has gotten standout nights from Sabrina Ionescu (27 in Game 1) and Breanna Stewart (35 in Game 2), with Jonquel Jones scoring 21 in Game 2, but Stewart’s 35-point performance still ended in a loss. If the top-heavy Liberty are not winning games when their best players are in form, it’s hard to imagine the overall result changing too drastically.
Recommendation: Atlanta +3.5 (-115). New York’s home court and shooting advantage make a Liberty win plausible, which is why the points are preferable to Atlanta’s +130 moneyline. Atlanta has covered twice, and the repeat edges in turnovers and second chances give the underdog a sound basis to stay within one possession.
Game-Total Lean: Over 173.5 (+117 / 46¢ at Kalshi)
The Over has cleared in both games, but only narrowly if overtime is stripped out. Game 1 totaled 174. Game 2 ended at 199, while its regulation total was 176 (88-88). Those two regulation scores support the Over, though each is close to the 173.5 line.
A simple blended estimate from regular-season scoring and points allowed comes to approximately 175.9: Atlanta averaged 91.3 and allowed 84.5; New York averaged 89.6 and allowed 86.4. Both teams also had more Over than Under results—Atlanta 27-21 (56.3%), New York 26-22 (54.2%). These indicators put the expected scoring only a little above the market.
The earlier head-to-head totals temper the pick. The Liberty’s June win totaled 194; the Dream wins in September totaled 179 and 148. That three-game average is 173.7, effectively the same as the line. The 148-point game is the warning sign, and Game 2’s 199-point final was helped by overtime.
Lean: Over 173.5. Season scoring and both Games 1 and 2 point to the over, but the broader historical average gives almost no margin for error. At significant plus-money, the over is worth a sprinkle.
Alternate Bet: Over 171.5 (-105, BetMGM)
Team Stats from Games 1 & 2
The summary shows a narrow series rather than Atlanta superiority across the board: New York leads in shooting, total rebounds and blocks. The Dream’s advantage lies in the number and quality of possessions—especially turnovers and offensive boards – which is the core of the spread prediction.
Dream vs Liberty Game 3 odds
Odds as of October 9 at 9:45 a.m. ET from MGM.
After removing the bookmaker margin, the listed moneylines imply about a 58.2% chance of a Liberty win and 41.8% for Atlanta. A $10 bet on New York at -154 returns $16.49 total ($6.49 profit); a $10 Atlanta bet at +130 returns $23 total ($13 profit). The spread remains the preferred Atlanta wager because it protects against a close Liberty win.
